Is my storage array end of life?

Pick your array to see when it stops being sold, when standard support ends and, where the vendor publishes it, when security updates stop. The status is worked out against today, so you know how much runway you have to plan a refresh, a migration or an extension.

Understanding end of support

What end of life means for your array, vendor by vendor

Where do I find the official end of support date for my array?

Every vendor publishes it somewhere different. Dell publishes a downloadable end of life list for storage and converged infrastructure, with end of service and any extended support dates where they apply (Dell KB 000185734). NetApp publishes ONTAP release dates openly, but hardware end of availability and end of support dates sit on its support site and in Hardware Universe, behind a login (NetApp KB on EOA, EOS and EOVS). HPE publishes end of life notices in its Support Center, several of which also need a login. Everpure points customers to an end of product lifecycle overview in its support portal. This checker brings the publicly verifiable dates together; for your own serial numbers, confirm with the vendor or ask us.

What actually changes when an array reaches end of support?

Can I still get firmware or software updates without a support contract?

Usually not. NetApp says an active support contract is required to download software from its support site, and versions that have reached end of support are no longer available to download at all (NetApp KB on software downloads). It also says AutoSupport stops opening support cases once the entitlement expires (NetApp KB on AutoSupport). Everpure says a lapse in Evergreen//Forever or //Foundation coverage is subject to a reinstatement fee (Everpure End User Agreement), and its Evergreen//One terms set a reinstatement fee of five percent of annual contract value in defined circumstances (Evergreen//One terms). Dell does not publish a single storage specific rule for lapsed contracts, but offers a one time fee remote service for out of warranty products (Dell KB 000223825). Plan on no new firmware once support lapses, and check the cost of returning before you let it lapse.

What if an out of support array fails?

It is one of the most common questions on vendor community forums from people running arrays past their dates. Without a contract you are relying on spare parts, your own team, a third party maintenance provider or the vendor's paid time and materials options, and a multiple drive failure on an old array can become a data recovery problem quickly. If an array is past or near end of support and still holds important data, decide now whether to extend, bridge with third party maintenance or refresh. Our support renewal vs refresh calculator puts numbers on the options.

Which HPE and Everpure arrays are covered?

We only list dates we can verify from the vendor. The HPE 3PAR StoreServ 8000 is included from HPE's own end of life notice: its support period ended on 31 August 2026, and HPE says it will not extend support contracts beyond that date. Our 3PAR 8000 end of support guide sets out the options. Other HPE families, such as 3PAR 9000 and 20000, Nimble, Primera, Alletra and MSA, are not listed here; their notices sit behind HPE's support login. Everpure's lifecycle table is also behind a support login. If you run HPE or Everpure arrays, tell us the models and we will confirm the dates with the vendor for you. C4C is an official HPE partner.

Plan your refresh

End of support coming up? Let us plan it with you.

  1. Tell us what you run. The arrays, their support end dates, rough capacity and what depends on them. No need to share any quote.
  2. We lay out the options. Refresh, migrate to a platform that fits better, consolidate, or extend for a while with third party maintenance, each costed on the same basis.
  3. We deliver it. Supply, implementation and migration by us, the vendor or your team, whichever is best, timed so the support date never forces your hand.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I check if my storage array is end of life?

Choose the vendor, the product family and the model above to see the end of sale date, the end of standard support date and, where the vendor publishes it, the end of security support date, with a status worked out against today. Then confirm the dates for your own serial numbers with the vendor, because dates can change and can differ by region.

What is the difference between end of sale and end of support?

End of sale is the date after which a product can no longer be ordered. End of standard support is the date after which the vendor no longer guarantees maintenance, fixes or new features, which for Dell is end of standard support and for NetApp is end of support. Dell also publishes an end of security support date for some products, after which security updates are no longer guaranteed.

Where do these dates come from?

Dell and EMC dates come from Dell KB 000185734, current as of 9 October 2026, which Dell says is subject to change, and security dates from Dell KB 000208328. ONTAP release dates come from NetApp’s support dates knowledge base article. NetApp publishes per model hardware dates behind a support login, so most NetApp model dates here are as published by third party maintenance providers and should be confirmed on the NetApp Support Site.

What should I do when my array reaches end of support?

You have four realistic options: refresh to the vendor’s current platform, migrate to a different platform that fits better, consolidate onto fewer systems, or extend the existing array for a while with third party maintenance. Start planning twelve to eighteen months before the date, because a migration needs time and the renewal or refresh is where you have most leverage.

Is third party maintenance a good idea for an end of life array?

It can be a sensible bridge for a stable array you plan to retire, because it usually costs less than the vendor’s extended options. The trade offs are real: no new firmware or features, security updates stop at the vendor’s end of security support date, and a different escalation path when something serious goes wrong. We talk through the pros and cons honestly for your estate.

Where do I find the end of support date for my NetApp system?

NetApp publishes hardware end of availability and end of support dates on its support site and in Hardware Universe, which need a NetApp login. ONTAP release support dates are public in a NetApp knowledge base article. The NetApp results in this checker show which ONTAP release drops each platform, and label any hardware date that comes from third party sources so you can confirm it on the NetApp support site.

Can I download firmware or ONTAP without a support contract?

Not from NetApp: it says an active support contract is required to download software from its support site, and versions that have reached end of support are no longer available to download. Other vendors also tie updates to an active contract, so plan on no new firmware or software once support lapses, and check the cost of returning before you let it lapse.

What happens if I let storage support lapse?

You lose vendor fixes, firmware and engineering help, and some monitoring stops: NetApp says AutoSupport no longer opens support cases once the entitlement expires, and HPE says remote monitoring on Nimble and Alletra 5000 needs an active contract. Returning can carry a reinstatement fee; Everpure, for example, applies one to lapses in Evergreen coverage. Third party maintenance can bridge a stable array, with trade offs worth weighing first.

Are HPE 3PAR, Nimble or Everpure arrays covered?

The HPE 3PAR StoreServ 8000 is covered, from HPE’s own end of life notice: its support period ended on 31 August 2026 and HPE says it will not extend support contracts beyond that date. Other HPE families, such as 3PAR 9000 and 20000, Nimble, Primera, Alletra and MSA, are not listed here, and Everpure’s dates sit behind its support login. Tell us your models and we will confirm the dates with the vendor. C4C is an official HPE partner.

Can C4C help with a refresh or migration?

Yes. C4C is an official Dell Technologies and NetApp partner, and also partners with HPE and VAST Data, tied to none. We supply, implement and support, with hardware break fix support from the vendor, and run migrations ourselves, with the vendor’s professional services, or with your team, whichever is best for you. Our founders spent over a decade at EMC selling enterprise arrays to finance, banking and telcos.
