Rubrik vs Cohesity: which is better?
Rubrik and Cohesity are often shortlisted against each other, but they are built to solve different problems. So the choice follows the driver. If you want a security led, managed feel and budget is not the constraint, Rubrik fits the brief. If you are consolidating data management across a very large estate, or you already run NetBackup, Cohesity does. If neither is really the driver, it is worth asking whether you need either platform, or whether simpler software on hardware you choose does the job.
Veeam vs Rubrik: flexibility or a premium platform?
This is the comparison we are asked about most. Rubrik is an integrated platform: you buy into its way of working, its management and, for appliances, its hardware, and in return you get a polished experience and a strong security story. Veeam is software: you choose the hardware and the immutable storage, the licence moves with the workload, and the ecosystem of supported targets and integrations is the largest in the market.
For a security led buyer with budget, Rubrik is a credible choice. For most estates, Veeam gives the same core outcome, fast and recoverable backups with immutability, with lower lock in and less cost, which is why we usually land there. Veeam vs Cohesity: simple software or a consolidation platform?
Cohesity makes most sense when the goal is to consolidate several data management jobs onto one platform at large scale, or when you already run NetBackup and want a supported path forward. Veeam makes most sense when the job is protecting and recovering workloads well, simply and portably. Many estates are buying a platform when what they need is backup, and that is where Veeam is usually the better fit.
Commvault vs Rubrik and Cohesity: breadth or simplicity?
Commvault has the broadest workload coverage of the four, decades of enterprise heritage, and can protect almost anything. That breadth is its strength and its cost: it is generally the most complex to deploy and run, and you pay for capability across a wide surface. Against Rubrik, Commvault wins on breadth and Rubrik on simplicity and security experience. Against Cohesity, Commvault wins on breadth and Cohesity on consolidation. Where you have genuinely diverse, unusual workloads, Commvault's coverage is hard to beat.
What are the alternatives to Rubrik?

Choose the alternative by the reason Rubrik appealed: if it was security, compare the malware detection and immutability each offers on your own data; if it was simplicity, Veeam on a purpose built immutable target is usually the closest match at lower cost; if it was scale, Cohesity or Commvault. Whichever you choose, weigh the total cost over three to five years, including storage and immutable targets, what happens at renewal, how hard it would be to move away later, and how much of the platform you will genuinely use.
