Dynatrace implementation

Dynatrace implementation, designed before it is deployed

Most of the value in Dynatrace is decided before the first agent goes in: what gets full depth, what gets basic health, which logs are worth keeping and who gets told when something breaks. We design that first, then deploy it in phases, starting where it matters most.

What does a Dynatrace implementation involve?

A Dynatrace implementation puts OneAgent on the hosts and containers you want to observe, connects cloud and Kubernetes platforms, brings logs in through OpenPipeline and any OpenTelemetry data through the native OTLP endpoints, and then turns all of it into alerting, dashboards and integrations people actually use. Grail stores the data and Smartscape maps the dependencies between services automatically.

The technical install is the quick part. The decisions that shape cost and usefulness are which parts of the estate get full stack monitoring and which only need infrastructure monitoring, which logs to ingest and how long to keep them, and how alerts reach the right team. Getting those right at the start is far cheaper than unpicking them later.

Implementation

What we do

Coverage design

A documented plan for which hosts, services and clusters get full stack depth, which get infrastructure monitoring, and which are left out, tied to how much each matters to the business.

Deployment

OneAgent rollout across on premises, cloud and Kubernetes estates, ActiveGate placement, and OpenTelemetry ingestion for services already instrumented that way.

Logs and pipelines

Log ingest through OpenPipeline with filtering and retention rules set from the start, so log volume and cost are designed rather than discovered.

Alerting and integrations

Alerting routed to the owning teams, and integrations with the tools you already run, such as ServiceNow, Atlassian, GitHub and your cloud platforms.

Adoption

Dashboards, notebooks and enough Dynatrace Query Language (DQL) training that your teams can answer their own questions rather than raise a ticket.

What you get

Deliverables you can hold us to

We are an independent UK consultancy and an official Dynatrace partner. Our people spent decades on the vendor side, so we know how enterprise platforms are sold, sized and deployed, and we use that on your side of the table.

What we do not do

We do not run your monitoring around the clock. We design, deploy, train and optimise, and your teams or your existing service provider operate the platform day to day. That keeps the knowledge where it belongs.

Talk to us

How it works when you get in touch

  1. Tell us about the estate: what runs where, what you monitor today, and which services cause the most pain.
  2. We produce the coverage design and a phased plan, starting with the services where faster diagnosis is worth the most.
  3. We deploy it with your team, phase by phase, and hand over something your people understand and can run.

We reply within one working day. Prefer email? Write to us at hello@c4cgroup.co.uk.

Questions

Dynatrace implementation: frequently asked questions

How long does a Dynatrace implementation take?

It depends on the size of the estate and how many teams are involved, which is why we scope before we quote. We roll out in phases, starting with the services where faster diagnosis matters most, so you get value from the first phase rather than waiting for the whole estate.

Does Dynatrace support OpenTelemetry?

Yes. Dynatrace accepts OpenTelemetry data through native OTLP endpoints and provides its own supported distribution of the OpenTelemetry Collector. Services already instrumented with OpenTelemetry can send data to Dynatrace alongside OneAgent.

Do our teams need to learn DQL?

Some of them, yes. Dynatrace Query Language is how you query data in Grail, and the people who build dashboards and investigate issues get far more from the platform once they know it. We include practical DQL training in every implementation.

Should every server get full stack monitoring?

No. Full stack monitoring is priced by memory and is worth it for the services where code level detail speeds up diagnosis. Many supporting hosts only need infrastructure monitoring. Deciding this up front is one of the biggest levers on what Dynatrace costs you.

Can C4C implement Dynatrace for us?

Yes. As an official Dynatrace partner we design and deploy Dynatrace, train your teams, and can supply the licensing too, so one team is accountable for the rollout and the commercials.
